Armenian driving theory test 2026 — how it works and how to practise

This page explains the driving theory test in Armenia and how to practise for it online: what the computer test looks like, where the official questions come from, how to take a free exam simulation without creating an account, which practice modes exist on Drv.am, and a study plan that gets most candidates to a pass in two to three weeks. Every rule below carries a bracketed number pointing to its source — the Government decision on driving-licence exams, the Road Police FAQ, the Police question lists or the national services gateway. Sources were checked on 22 September 2026.

How the theory exam works in Armenia

The theory exam is the first stage of an Armenian driving licence and is taken on a computer at a Road Police registration-and-examination unit. A test is drawn at random: 3 psychological questions and 20 knowledge questions, each with 2 to 5 answer options, and you have 30 minutes.[1] You pass when you have answered all the psychological questions and at least 18 of the 20 knowledge questions correctly — 2 mistakes at most.[1] The knowledge questions are drawn by topic: 15 on the traffic rules, 2 on the conditions that prohibit driving a vehicle, 2 on the Law on Ensuring Road Traffic Safety and 1 on first aid.[4]

You choose the exam language when you register — Armenian, Russian, English, Persian or Arabic.[1] Book the exam through the national services gateway or at a Road Police unit; the state fee for a theory sitting is 3,000 ֏.[2] A passed theory exam stays valid for 1 year, within which you take the practical exam.[1, 2]

Where the questions come from

The Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs publish the official theory-exam question lists on their site, in groups per language, so the questions you will see are public.[3] The national services gateway puts the bank at 1,116 questions.[4] Drv.am practises the same questions in Armenian, Russian and English with an explanation for every answer; its bank held 1,104 questions when it was last synchronised with the Police lists on 24 August 2026.

Try a free exam simulation now — no sign-up

Start a free exam. It is the real format: 20 random questions from the current bank, the 30-minute timer, the pass mark of 18, and the same screen you would use after signing up. No account, no e-mail, no card. At the end you see your score and your first mistake; the full review with an explanation for every question opens with a free account, which is also where your progress, mistakes and bookmarks are kept.

Prefer Russian or Armenian? The simulation exists in each language: русский, հայերեն.

Practice modes on Drv.am

  • By topic. The bank is split into the topics of the exam (road signs, markings, right of way, overtaking, speed, stopping and parking, first aid and so on). Work through one topic until you stop making mistakes in it, then move to the next.
  • All questions. Random questions from the whole bank, without a timer — the mode for the days you want volume.
  • Exam simulation. 20 questions, 30 minutes, pass mark 18 — identical in form to the real sitting.
  • Mistakes only. Every question you have ever answered wrongly, retried until you get it right.
  • Spaced review and bookmarks. Questions you saved, and questions the system brings back at growing intervals so they stay learned.
  • An explanation for every answer — why the correct option is correct and why the others are not, with the rule behind it.

Sign up in one step (e-mail or Google) to practise in these modes; the first period is unlimited and free, after it a free daily allowance remains and unlimited access is a one-time purchase. Alongside the tests you have the traffic rules of Armenia, the road signs catalogue with the official drawings, road safety and vehicle malfunctions — the whole exam programme.

A study plan that works

  1. Day 1 — take the exam simulation cold. Do not study first. The score tells you how far you are, and the missed questions tell you which topics to start with.
  2. Days 2–10 — one or two topics a day, by topic. Signs and markings first (the largest share of the bank and the easiest to learn from the catalogue), then right of way at junctions, then speed, overtaking, stopping and parking, lights, first aid and the rest.
  3. Every day — the mistakes mode for ten minutes. Your own mistakes are the highest-value questions in the bank. Read the explanation each time.
  4. Days 11–20 — exam simulations, one or two a day. Time yourself. Bookmark the questions you guessed, even when the guess was right, and clear them the next day.
  5. The last three days — mistakes and bookmarks only, then one simulation each morning.

If you fail

After a first failure you may retake the exam no sooner than 7 days later, paying the 3,000 ֏ fee again; after a second failure, no sooner than a month later.[1, 4] The Road Police also run express sittings: 45,000 ֏ to retake the next day or 30,000 ֏ on the third day after a first failure.[2] Given those fees, five clean simulations in a row before you book are cheaper than one express retake.

Frequently asked questions

Can I take the Armenian driving theory test in English or Russian?

Yes. The Government decision lists Armenian, Russian, English, Persian and Arabic as exam languages; you choose when you register.[1] Practising in the exam language matters because the wording of the options is part of what you learn.

How many questions and mistakes are there?

20 knowledge questions plus 3 psychological ones, in 30 minutes; 18 correct answers pass, so up to 2 mistakes are allowed.[1]

Can I practise for free without registering?

Yes — one full exam simulation is open to everyone with no account. Practice by topic, the mistakes mode, explanations and progress tracking need a free account; the first period is unlimited, after it a free daily allowance remains and unlimited access is a one-time purchase.

Where are the official exam questions published?

By the Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in groups per language.[3] Drv.am practises the same bank with an explanation per question.

How much does the theory exam cost?

3,000 ֏ per sitting; the practical exam costs 3,000 ֏ and 10,000 ֏ for its two stages, and the licence 12,000 ֏.[2] Practising on Drv.am is free to start.

How long is a passed theory exam valid?

1 year: you take the practical exam within that time.[1, 2]
